‘They Stay When Planes Leave’
What if the true motion of a journey begins before the wheels leave the ground?
They Stay When Planes Leave turns our attention to those who remain: the silent ground crew who guide, lift, and prepare—then disappear from view as the aircraft ascends.

PURE · CURE
Single Screen Moving Images, 01’45”,2019
PURE · CURE is a Single-Screen Moving Image piece that meditates on the existence of sweetness beyond mere indulgence. It contemplates how something not born to comfort could still become a vessel for joy and quiet resilience. Even if among thousands, one act of creation carries sincere intent, it becomes enough to resist despair.

Tianyun Zhao (Yano)

Based in London, UK
heytianyun@gmail.com

Tianyun is a photographer and moving image artist whose work merges experimental photography, moving image, and fashion aesthetics to explore the fluid relationships between time, memory, and space. She examines the adaptation of traditional Eastern culture in contemporary society, the ways digital media reshape perceptions of reality, and the integration of AI technology in moving image creation—using these explorations as a means to reflect on the boundaries of self-perception.

Her practice is deeply influenced by Eastern philosophy, urbanisation, and fashion culture, constructing a world that exists between fantasy and gentle rebellion.
The visual artworks she has produced have been exhibited at many festivals, such as Aesthetica Short Film Festival (UK) and Pingyao International Film Festival (China), and have been featured
on global platforms like NOWNESS. She continues to explore the intersections of moving image, fashion, and emerging technologies through artistic collaborations and independent projects.
